9/11 Service Project with The Mission Continues, Sept 10 2016

9/11 project

Here is an AWESOME event that I think we can all appreciate hosted by The Mission Continues:

9/11 Service Project @ Ellis Island

Saturday, September 10th 10AM-2PM. Located in the New York Harbor and known as the Gateway to America for over 12 million immigrants from the 1890s to 1950s, Ellis Island is an enduring American symbol of freedom and hope.

In 2012, flood waters from Hurricane Sandy covered almost all of Ellis Island damaging a majority of its infrastructure. Ongoing repairs and recovery efforts have helped Ellis Island return to its pre-Sandy condition but there’s still more to be done.

To help revitalize Ellis Island, veterans and community members will spend this day of service working side-by-side, removing trash and debris and refurbishing the grounds.

TRANSPORTATION: There is only 1 way to get onto Ellis Island – by ferry at Battery Park or Liberty State Park. Luckily, we’ll provide ferry tickets. Please indicate which ferry to plan to take when RSVPing. Detailed project information, ferry departure times and ferry ticket pick up information will be given after Labor Day.

If you sign up please leave a comment below. I’m trying to track MILVET participation in various events throughout the semester. RSVP here: https://www.missioncontinues.org/event/details?id=a1l4000000342Sa
